I wanted to do something… to create something that would make a difference; that would help people feel better in their own skin. 

The research began… first, I learned about product ingredients > natural vs. manufactured. 

I didn’t realize that everything that we put ON our bodies goes IN our body and some of these “toxic” ingredients can manifest into skin issues or worse. Well, needless to say, I threw away all the soaps, lotions, makeup, shampoos, etc. that had a long list of ingredients that I did not recognize. I would not recommend doing that… take it slow and make conscious choices, because it can get expensive really quick. It’s scary what chemicals these huge corporations are mass-producing in their products. I won't mention the name of these businesses, but I will say… 

PLEASE pay attention to the ingredients of everything you put in/on your body.  Just because it smells good, does not mean that it is good…

:::jumping off soapbox now::: 

Finally, after researching (what seemed like forever), I taught myself the art of cold process soap making.  It was very important to me that all my products were 100% all natural, with no synthetics or animal products.  

My Grandmother was so amazing and knew many natural herbal remedies that she had learned, grown up with and also those that had been passed down through generations. She had taught me how to make tinctures and was a wealth of precious information. My Mom was passionate about essential oils and had learned much over the years. She had the gift of knowledge and shared what she knew with me.  I was blessed to have these two amazing women in my life. 

I started my business, Soapinessence, in 2013. I got my Soapmaking Certification in 2016. I launched my men’s line, SWAGGA For Men in 2018. I am now studying to obtain my Advanced Soapmaking Certification and Cosmetics (Making) Certification in 2024. 

I am passionate about what I do and making a difference one person at a time.
